Four Boston Police Department officers have been charged in connection with overtime fraud at the department’s evidence warehouse, the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Massachusetts announced last week. The officers, assigned to the Evidence Control Unit, are accused of routinely getting off of their overtime shifts early and submitting fraudulent overtime slips to get pay for hours they did not work.
The officers allegedly embezzled over $200,000 in overtime pay between May 2016 and February 2019. The charge of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, which the accused officers are facing among other charges, provides for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison. Each officer faces significant potential fines.
