Boston Police Department Implements Changes and Increases Diversity Efforts
Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox shared an update on Wednesday regarding the department’s effort to improve and reform internal policies. In the announcement, Cox shared that the BPD is in the process of hiring a Diversity Recruitment Officer and 60 new police cadets. To promote peer intervention among officers, the Boston Police Department is incorporating a two-hour ABLE (Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement) course as part of its annual in-service training.
Cox also detailed a number of changes within the department to improve internal systems, continue POST certification of officers and report crime, hate crime, and field interaction data to various agencies and external partners.
