New Jersey Senator Corey Booker has negotiated with a number of other senators as he anticipates some bipartisan progress on limited federal police reform legislation, Olivia Olander reports for Politico. After the police killing of Tyre Nichols in Memphis, Booker had a fruitful discussion with South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham on a compromise on addressing qualified immunity, which protects law enforcement officers from liability in several cases.
“I’m sobered about the belief that we can get a big comprehensive bill done. But can we get something done? I believe we can,” Booker told NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday.
