Family of Sikh Man Killed in NYC Demand Hate Crime Charges for Suspect

The family of a man killed in an unprovoked and violent attack following a minor traffic accident on the Van Wyck Expressway in New York City is calling for hate crime charges against the suspect, Naveen Dhaliwal reports for CBS News. Jasmer Singh, a Sikh man, was driving his wife home from a doctor’s appointment when he bumped his car into another driver who then got out and attacked him. Singh succumbed to his injuries a day later. Police say the driver of that other car was caught and now is facing several charges, including manslaughter and assault, but not as a hate crime. Singh’s son said he is convinced his father’s appearance as a turbaned Sikh was the reason for the brutal assault.
