Justice Barrett Voices Support for Adoption of a Supreme Court Ethics Code
During a conversation at the University of Minnesota Law School, Justice Amy Coney Barrett said that she favored an ethics code for the Supreme Court, Abbie VanSickle reports for the New York Times. The statement comes as justices like Clarence Thomas and Samuel A. Alito Jr. face scrutiny and condemnation over their ethics practices in recent months after revelations that they had failed to report gifts and luxury travel. Barrett said that she could not speak for the court on a timeline for creating an ethics code, or precisely what it might look like. Clarence Thomas repeatedly took lavish trips with Harlan Crow, a Texas billionaire and conservative donor, and Samuel A. Alito Jr. flew on the private jet of Paul Singer, a hedge fund billionaire who frequently has had business before the court.
