Murder of Detroit Synagogue President May Not Be a Hate Crime, Say Police

Police are claiming that the killing of the president of a synagogue in Detroit does not appear to be a hate crime, though Police Chief James White said the investigation was still ongoing, reports BBC News. Samantha Woll was found stabbed to death near her home on Saturday by Detroit police who believe that is where the killing took place, though there is currently no information about who carried out the killing or why. Investigators from the Detroit Police Department are working with the FBI, and some people “with information” are being interviewed. ADL Michigan, the state chapter of the Anti-Defamation League, has urged people not to speculate on the killer’s motivations and allow the police to gather the facts. Attacks on Jewish and Palestinian-Americans have increased since the Israel-Gaza war erupted two weeks ago.
