Polling Data Shows 1 in 3 Asians and Pacific Islanders Experienced Racial Abuse In the US This Year
About a third of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders say they have experienced an act of abuse based on their race or ethnicity this year according to a new polling report from AAPI Data and Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, Terry Tang and Linley Sanders report for the Associated Press. Additionally, 15% say they have been the victim of a hate crime at some point in their lives and 51% believe racism is an “extremely” or “very” serious problem in the U.S. About 1 in 10 say they have been physically assaulted or physically threatened in the last year. The poll of 1,178 adults was conducted in October 2023.
