Son of Nashville Police Chief Wanted for Attempted Murder of Two Local Cops

Tennessee law enforcement is searching for the son of Nashville’s police chief, who is wanted on two counts of attempted first-degree murder after allegedly shooting two suburban police officers, Andy Rose and Michelle Watson reports for CNN. Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake confirmed that the suspect, John Drake Jr., is his son, but claimed that they have had no contact for “quite some time.”

Police said the shooting happened when the officers, who were investigating a stolen vehicle, made contact and struggled with Drake Jr. Saturday night in La Vergne, a suburb of Nashville. During a recent press conference, La Vergne Police Chief Christopher Moews said that Drake Jr. then produced a handgun and shot Officer Ashely Boleyjack and Officer Gregory Kern. Both officers survived, with Boleyjack being released Saturday and Kern listed in stable condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. A reward of $2,500 has been offered for information leading to Drake Jr.’s arrest.
